Helen MacNamara

The Independent

Helen MacNamara has worked at the highest levels of government for over twenty years. Her last role was as Deputy Cabinet Secretary, where she was responsible for the operation of Cabinet government. During her time in the Cabinet Office she worked for three Prime Ministers (when that meant years not weeks), ran the Cabinet Secretariat, including during the coalition, and did a stint as the DG of Propriety and Ethics. Apart from a period as Director General of Housing and Planning in the Ministry of Housing, the rest of her career was in DCMS, where she worked on media policy and the creative economy and as Tessa Jowell’s Principal Private Secretary. Helen played an instrumental part in the bid for the 2012 London Olympics and set up the Leveson Inquiry into British media ethics.
