“The UK dance superproducer on a mission to break down barriers” -
The Rolling Stone
Jax Jones (real name Timucin “Timz” Lam) is a globally renowned DJ, songwriter and producer who has spent over a decade at the forefront of the British music scene.
As one of the UK’s most in-demand musical exports, he has racked up more than 65 platinum singles worldwide, over 9 billion global streams and 60 million record sales. The Grammy-, BRIT- and Ivor Novello-nominated artist has cemented his reputation as one of his generation’s most talented hitmakers and one of dance music’s most successful producers with more than 180 songwriting credits to his name.
Jax was born and raised in South London. From an early age it was clear music would be his path. At just eight years old he began studying classical guitar through a council-funded programme. An experience that still shapes how he approaches pop and dance music today. That formal training was balanced by the sounds filling his home: Afrobeat, Dancehall, Soul, Motown, Hip-Hop and R&B. His Nigerian stepfather’s eclectic musical taste had a lasting influence, shaping Jax’ sense of groove, rhythm and melody.
As a teenager he began spending time in a Brixton studio, moving from guitar accompaniment to recording mixtapes and writing his own songs. By 16 he was performing at open mic nights and producing beats. Despite being a straight-A student, music ultimately took priority and he left university to pursue it full-time.
Jax has spoken openly about the challenges he faced growing up. Periods of homelessness, difficult relationships, mental health struggles and painful family circumstances meant music became more than just a creative outlet. It was a lifeline. By the age of 21 he was living and working alone in a garage studio. “Music was all I had”, he says.
Inspired by legendary producers such as Pharrell Williams, he set out to follow a similar path, seeing success in music as a way to build a better future. Early collaborations across the UK rap scene such as N-Dubz and Tinchy Stryder helped him developing his reputation as both a songwriter and producer.
Songwriting soon proved to be his breakthrough. After early work including co-writing a track with Bruno Mars, Jax deepened his involvement in dance music culture and began collaborating with Duke Dumont. Immersing himself in house music’s roots and community, he found a space that resonated deeply with him. Their collaboration on the chart-topping single ‘I Got U’ marked a turning point in his career, reached Number #1 on the UK Single Charts and bringing him global recognition.
From there momentum built quickly. Collaborations with artists including MNEK, Raye, Demi Lovato, Charli XCX and Mabel and helped establish Jax as a trusted creative partner across pop and dance music. His breakthrough solo hit ‘You Don’t Know Me’ (feat. Raye) became one of his defining records, reached the UK Top 3 and charted across Europe. His debut album ‘Snacks’ later cemented his place in the global dance landscape. Tracks such as the platinum-certified collaboration ‘Where Did You Go’ with MNEK combine Eurodance nostalgia with contemporary pop sensibilities while ‘Whistle’ (feat. Calum Scott) was written along the bus route Jax took as a child in South London.
Beyond his own music, Jax is also dedicated to building opportunities for emerging artists. His record label WUGD champions the next generation of UK talent while his work as a producer and collaborator continues to span genres and continents. Alongside a packed international touring schedule, he remains a prolific studio presence - whether crafting original releases or producing club-ready remixes.
At the heart of Jax Jones’ story is a deep belief in music’s ability to connect people. Drawing on influences that span cultures, genres and lived experiences. From London to the global dancefloor. He continues to push pop and dance music forward while staying rooted in the sounds that first inspired him.
