SXSW London Age Policy
1. Introduction
This document outlines the age policy for SXSW London 2026 and should be read in conjunction with the SXSW London Terms and Conditions and individual Venue Terms.
SXSW London 2026 is a multi-venue event taking place across Shoreditch, incorporating a combination of dry hire, mixed, and promoter operated venues. The distributed nature of the event and the variation in venue licensing conditions require a consistent but adaptable approach to age restrictions and entry control.
This policy sets out the minimum age requirements, associated controls, and enforcement approach for attendees across all event spaces and programming. It ensures that age related restrictions are applied consistently and in line with licensing, safety, and operational requirements.
Age management forms part of the wider event control framework and is integrated into accreditation, security, and venue operations.
2. Scope and Application
This policy applies to all SXSW London 2026 activity, including all venues, event spaces, and programme elements during the live event period.
It applies to all attendees, including delegates, artists, speakers, and guests, as well as all staff, contractors, suppliers, and partner organisations involved in delivery.
Responsibility for implementation is shared between SXSW London, its producing partner TAIT, and individual venue operators, with enforcement delivered through accreditation, security, and front of house teams.
3. Minimum Age Requirements
The minimum age for attendance at SXSW London 2026 is 16 years. Persons under the age of 16 are not permitted to attend any part of the event.
Attendees aged 16 or 17 are permitted to attend but must be always accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. Responsibility for the minor remains with the accompanying adult throughout the event.
All attendees, regardless of age, are required to hold a valid SXSW London pass. A pass provides access to the event but does not guarantee entry to specific venues or sessions, as access is managed in line with capacity and venue controls.
4. Venue and Programme Specific Restrictions
SXSW London operates across multiple venues, each subject to its own licensing conditions and operational requirements. As such, additional age restrictions apply in certain contexts.
Music Festival showcases are restricted to attendees aged 18 and over in line with venue licensing requirements. Screen Festival programming is subject to official age classifications and venue specific policies, which are applied at point of entry.
Attendees are required to comply with both SXSW London Terms and Conditions and the terms of the individual venue. Where differences exist, venue licensing conditions take precedence.
5. Babies and Young Children
Babies in arms are permitted within conference sessions only. Crawling or walking babies, and babies over the age of 12 months, are not permitted within event spaces.
No other exceptions apply for individuals under the age of 16.
6. Entry Controls and Verification
Entry to all venues is conditional on the presentation of a valid pass and compliance with age requirements. Attendees may be required to provide valid photo identification as proof of age at any point.
Age verification checks are delivered through venue entry points and may be supported by accreditation controls and security procedures. Refusal or inability to provide valid identification when requested may result in refused entry or removal from a venue.
Due to the nature of the event and venue capacities, access to individual sessions or spaces cannot be guaranteed.
7. Enforcement and Compliance
Age restrictions are enforced through a combination of accreditation controls, security checks, and venue management procedures.
SXSW London and its venue partners reserve the right to refuse entry or remove any individual who does not meet the stated age requirements or fails to comply with this policy, venue terms, or staff instructions.
Failure to comply with age related controls may result in removal from site and pass invalidation. No entitlement to refund applies in such circumstances.
8. Monitoring and Review
Delivery of this policy is monitored throughout the event via operational reporting, incident logs, and feedback from venue teams and attendees.
Any age-related incidents are managed through established event control and escalation procedures, aligned with the wider event management framework.
Following the event, age policy implementation will be reviewed as part of the overall event debrief to inform future planning and continuous improvement.
