The Lionesses Effect: 20 Years in Women’s Football

Date & Time

June 2, 2025, 10:55 - 11:40 AM

To celebrate 20 years since BBC Sport broadcast the 2005 UEFA European Women’s Euro tournament from England, and on the eve of the 2025 competition, where the Lionesses will defend their Euro Champions title, join BBC Studios and Gabby Logan for this special panel. We will look back at the journey women’s football has been on; from the misogynistic attitudes of the past, to winning the hearts and minds of nations today. How have changes in broadcast coverage, physical and digital fan experiences and brand partnerships moved the dial? With research showing 70% of fans believe that brands help boost the visibility of the sport (source: Visa), we will hear how Google Pixel have partnered with the FA to create Pixel FC Academy, helping young women break into football content creation and the media industry. How as a brand can you truly advocate for the game, as opposed to just ride on the wave of popularity? And as inspiration turns to participation, with the number of women and girls’ teams doubling in the last seven years, how can we accelerate growth even more and continue to make the game accessible and inclusive at a grassroots level? With Euro 2025 just a month away, we will also hear the panel’s predictions – who are the teams and players to watch?
