Farooq Chaudhry OBE is a British Asian dance producer and director known for forging collaborations between artists from unfamiliar backgrounds.
Born in Pakistan and raised in London, he worked as a professional dancer before co-founding the Akram Khan Company in 2000.
As a producer, he helped elevate the company to international prominence by blending enterprise with artistic risk.
He has since collaborated with English National Ballet and Chinese choreographer Yang Liping, while also working as an educator, mentor, and consultant at institutions like Goldsmiths and London Business School.
Chaudhry’s honours include an OBE (2019) and an Outstanding Contribution to China–UK Cultural Exchange award (2025). In 2021, he founded Feng Ling Productions as Artistic Director, creating works such as Nine Songs and Ten Thousand Tons of Moonlight that bridge Chinese traditions with global narratives. He served as an Artist Trustee at Tate (2019–2023), and in 2026 was appointed International Artistic Director (Dance Section) of the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theatre, later joining a UK trade delegation to China led by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
