José Castro is the Founder & CEO of Segura, a deep tech water quality startup building what he calls "a glucose monitor for water" — a rapid electrochemical platform that detects heavy metals and other contaminants in under five minutes. Born in Guatemala and Oxford-educated, José combines a background in chemistry, mathematics, and water science with hands-on deployments for NYC DEP, LA DWP, and DC Water. Segura's technology has been recognised by TechCrunch Startup Battlefield, the Hello Tomorrow Deep Tech Pioneers programme, and the WEF UpLink Water Challenge. José is a Global Talent Visa holder, a St Gallen Symposium Leader of Tomorrow, and a published researcher whose work spans citizen science, electrochemical sensing, and water equity in low- and middle-income countries.
